I’ll Fix The Growing Disillusionment With Ghana’s Democracy

Kojo Bonsu, a former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), who has announced his decision to contest the presidential primary election of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), says he has the answers to the growing disillusionment with Ghana’s democracy.

Many of the people, he notes, are increasingly losing confidence in the democratic governance, all because the political leaders they have every four years been standing in long queues to elect with high expectations, to build a society that worked for everybody have proved to be uncaring and will simply not listen.

Kojo Bonsu who has been touring the country to engage with traditional rulers and other key stakeholders sees himself as the right man for the job of leading the country to restore hope in the faltering democracy.

The NDC presidential aspirant has been to Yendi to pay a courtesy call of the overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II, where he underlined the need for a radical change to build trust and confidence in democratic governance.

“For many voters, especially the youth, our democracy is proving to be a failed experiment and yet as much as they may have reason to believe so, we must quickly prove this to be wrong with the best of our development initiatives and leadership style to speak for us where words will no longer be assuring.”

It is early day’s yet but the presidential primary election of the NDC is shaping up to be a tricky and keen contest.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, an ex-Finance Minister and Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BOG), is also upping his campaign to build a strong constituency for his bid to lead the largest opposition party to the 2024 general election. John Dramani Mahama is going to be given a good run for his money.

Dr. Duffour had already met constituency and branch executives of the party in Ashanti, his home region.

He has been talking about the need to strengthen and energize the party’s grassroot to better their chances of winning the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024.

The decision by the former KMA Boss and the ex-Finance Minister, both from Ashanti has unnerved some ardent supporters of former President Mahama.
